Next Round

Ok, we've had some positive responses on next round, so we will keep on going. I do need one week off to get money settled and get the new list ready of people participating. I was trying to think of a bonus for people who lose weight during our week off. I was thinking of taking $1 off your pot "deposit" but then we wouldn't have enough money for winners (and I'm not going to subsidize that. haha) And then I was thinking of letting your add your weight loss onto the first week of the new round, but that's not really fair to new people joining. Anyway, if you have any good ideas, let me know. Otherwise, make sure you create a post and brag about how you lost weight even though we weren't competing!

OK, I need each of you to leave a comment for me here (or email me) by Wed Oct 14th and let me know:

A. Are you participating in the next 8-week round (beginning Oct 15th)?
B. If so, which Teams are you doing (A:Great in Eight points, B:Biggest Loser, or both)?
C. Are you putting money in the pot for either or both groups?

Please pass the blog address onto your friends who are interested. Remember the rules and information sheets can be found by clicking on "rules" on the sidebar. And my email address is carriericks@gmail.com.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Ok so I have a question. Has anyone heard of the HCG diet? Anyway, I am going to do that. now since we are not suppoe to take anything can I still be a part and report but then just not beable to be a winner? let me know. Thanks.

rach, ask jocey. i think that's the one she was talking about the other day. she never told me the name of it, but that sounds like the same thing. i think you are right about not competing, but you are most welcome to still be in the group.

i've been trying to figure out a fun competition for maintenance. the Great in Eight was a shot at that. if anyone has a good idea for how to have a contest with staying within a certain range (like +or- 2lbs) or something, let me know.

and lastly, i've thought about changing the days of weigh-in, we definitely can't do saturday because that's kind of crazy for most people...there's no routine, every saturday is different and we'd have a hard time getting weights in. are fridays not that way? if everyone weighed in in the morning, i could see it working, but once it hits fri night, no one is thinking about it. jocey has done mondays or tuesdays before, but that seems kinda cruel to me. or maybe its better because you would be more conscious of how you're eating on the weekend? point: if you have an opinion about the day of weigh in, let me know. i'm leaning toward staying thursday or maybe change to friday. what do you think?

Tammie said...

i'm still playing! i want to do both again, but i can only put in money for the weight loss.

I want to continue next round. I am only doing Biggest Loser and I want to put in money. I like Thursdays. I think Fridays would be to crazy.

Ok so I am just going to put this out there...

I looked in all the rules and it doesn't say anything about doing diets or not. Some people talked about weight watchers on here and so I am just trying to understand what the difference is in me doing HCG? And I am super excited about it and think that we should all just put money into doing this instead of the contest. You guys so many people around me have had so much success. The 1st counselor in our bishopric lost 70 lbs! Its totally safe and re-trains your metabolism. And I really don't see a difference in someone counting calories and calling it weight watchers, jenny craig or HCG? Just some thoughts. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I don't want to make anyone mad, but I was reading up on the hcg diet, and I think that if you are getting injections, or taking hormones from a doctor, and the average weight loss is 1-3 lbs a day, then how fair is that to the person who is just trying to make it day by day on their own? I would like you to stay a part of the group, so that I can see how the diet works for you. I just don't want to have you win every week, while you drop a lot of weight! =)

I'm good with starting up any day during the week. Weekends would be too crazy for me. I'm excited to get this started up again!!

Pepper Lovin! said...

NOthing anyone says will make me mad. I am not that person. I love opinions and thats why I put up the question. I am not getting anything from a doctor. And it's available to everyone. The average is a pound a day. I am just so excited. I wish that everyone would all do it instead of putting money toward the weight loss challenge. I am so excited because I found a diet that is A) do able. I never can keep anything up B) it's maintainable. I feel like we all get on here and say oh I had a bad couple days and we almost ENABLE each other to have bad days by saying oh it's ok. So then we turn it into an ok thing to not do what we originally came here to do which is to lose weight. all 20-30 people I have talked to have had SUCCESS with the HCG diet. I haven't heard of anyone not liking the diet. I want everyone to get on and say I had another good day.If I can't participate and do the HCG I most likely won't do the challenge because then what is my motivation for eating only 500 calories and day and taking the time to report it? I am going to do the HCG I just wanted everyone opinion. I would be making it day to day as well. My husband started on Sunday I started my girl stuff so I have to wait but he has already lost 5 lbs. So i would love to hear what everyone had to say. If anyone has questions let me know. I found a SUPER good deal on the HCG to so if anyone is interested...:)

I have heard success stories about that diet too. I can't do it right now because I am nursing, but I would love to hear where you got your good deal!

So a year and a 1/2 ago, a group of girls got together and started our first biggest losers group, a lot of us saw great results. I worked out really hard and did weight watchers, except I have to explain what weight watchers became for me, lasting as long as I could throughout the day, and only eating little things like an apple, or a yogurt, that way i could make normal dinners and eat what I needed to not be snacky at night. It worked out great for me, I lost over 20 lbs. and reached my goal that allowed me to go to Hawaii! We went to Hawaii this last March, and by May I had put 5 lbs back on. This was no problem, because since I had lost the weight I was use to gaining 5, then having to lose 5. over and over. But over the summer we fixed up a house, moved, had two weddings, and it was summer, so the working out stopped, and I wasn't eating awful, but the problem was that the minute I would eat breakfast or lunch I would gain weight, and with not working out of course more weight was gained. Basically my metabolism was use to 1000 calorie diet, which is not good for anyone. So by the end of the summer I was 15 lbs from my Hawaii weight, which was awful since I had only lost 23 lbs. in the first place. So this last month I did the HCG diet, because the point of the diet is to fix your body weight, so I have lost all the weight again, and am eating at least 1700 calories and my body should mantain this weight forever. I found this diet to be amazing, not necessarily for me but for my sister and mother, my sister has been a size 18, and is now already a 12, her plan is to get to 135, which is so exciting I really could cry about it. I thought I would share these things with all of you, because this is a garanteed way to lose the weight, but in a way that it will correct and fix your body. Instead of gaining all your hard work back in just one bad month. I do best with a diet when i am told exactly what to do, because I tend to make a bad choice every once in a while when I am making the decisions.

Rachel maybe we should get an HCG blog going so results can be posted there to keep everyone motivated, since in all reality, no one will be able to keep up with you, I silently put myself out of the competition because I didn't want to make a scene, when what I should have done was told everyone about these great results.
But it is true there are no rules about not going on a diet, aren't we all on a diet? I felt at first that I deserved to still be in the group because I knew no one else was eating 500 calories, so I felt like I was doing my part to win, but like I said before I had to silently leave the group because I would have won the last 4 weigh ins and then the final at the end.
Sorry everyone for the journal entry, if any one even read it:)

Rachel and Jocey I really want to know where to get this. I think I will get it and hold on to it until I'm done nursing. Only eating 500 calories a day scares me though. How'd you do it?

Hey Jocey could you clarify the Hcg diet your talking about that you are doing is it just a diet or is their more to it like injections or something?

Kasey said...

There are injections as well as drops you put under your tongue. If you go through a do it's very expensive! My friend got some on the internet for $40 and it worked great for her. I don't know a lot about this diet, but I just think if you cut your cals to 500 a day you'll lose wieght with or without the HCG stuff. So pretty much you do the injections or the drops and cut your cals to 500 and you'll drop weight quick. But I think if your cals are already that low excercise would not be good since your cals are so low. You'd burn everything in no time. My friend that did it didn't WO for a month since her cals were so low. She still lost weight though. I'm a skeptic though. I'm not against diet suppliments, but remember Fen Fen? You never know what this stuff is going to do. Just my thoughts.

Kasey said...

Oh, I have heard many people say they are contantly hungry doing to 500 cals on HGC. Thought I'd throw that out there.

Hello everyone...so Jimmy and I have been out of town and we have totally flaked out on weighing in. Jimmy was offered a really good job in Utah and we have been up there trying to decide if it was going to be a good decision...needless to say we never thought about skinny jeans...
so sorry.
So here is our final weigh in

Jimmy 169.8
Heidi 182.2

If we are out of the competition because we are so late weighing in, no big deal...Jimmy has done such an awesome job and has really made some healthy lifestyle changes so I thought I would at least let everyone know what his final weigh in was...

Good luck to everyone.

And just to put my 2 cents in on the HCG...My dad, brother, mom, Jimmy and myself all did this last year. We all did the injections, except my mom, she did the drops. The diet was amazing. My dad and brother lost 60 pounds, Jimmy lost 40 my mom and I both lost about 20.
Let me also say, NONE OF US KEEP IT OFF. It is a quick fix, the min. you go off the diet, the weight begins coming right back on.
I think everyone knows the way to lose weight is Healthy eating, potion control and working out! Anything else you do is a quick fix, if you don't change your lifestyle it wont stick.
I hope I haven't offended anyone, but after spending a TON of money, and only eating 500 cal a day for weeks and weeks on end. I will say it is a quick fix, and expect the weight to come right back on and more so.
Also if you are still having children do more research, it might make you think twice :)
Good luck to everyone in your weight lose goals.

Pepper Lovin! said...

im able to get the drops for 25! 3 of my neighbors have kept all their weight off for over a year! Also, it's not like fen fen or anything your body produces this hormone while preggo and on your period.

Carrie said...

i was actually going to make a comment similar to what heidi said...that it is still a diet. and if i can't stick to a regular diet, i'm not going to stick to the maintenance diet of hcg and it will undo all the work i did. i'm a big fan of "moderation in all things" especially when it comes to losing weight and being healthy.

also, kasey, the point isn't just to lose the weight. of course you would lose weight on 500 cals a day without the hcg. the thing is that by doing the shots/drops, you are supposed to reset your body and metabolism, as rachel referred to. so i suppose its starving yourself with a purpose.

as for it relating to the competition. jocey is right. you work hard to follow the diet and you have results, but you are not on the same competing level as everyone else. i guess i need to add it in the rules. but when the group first started it was a group of casa grande girls that met up in person to weigh in and they would have known if someone was doing something else so they didn't have it in the rules. and even though i understand the point, i don't support 500 cals a day for any period of time. and, well, i'm in charge! ;) haha.

as for it being different than weigh watchers, its not JUST diet. it is also a supplement and i think most of us would agree that it is not the same type of thing.

Pepper Lovin! said...

Well Since Carrie is 'in charge' i will bow out gracefully. I have a really hard time supporting everyone getting together and saying I had a sucky week, and all of us telling each other is't ok. it totally defeats the purpose of being healthy and losing weight. Its not ok. we need to stick to it. we need to be healthy and MY personal opinion is re-training my body to be and work healthy is the right way for me. It isn't a supplement we produce it in our bodies. And then maybe we need to have everyone report their calories per day as well since most people lose weight by TOTALLY cutting back. Like Jocey said she lost weight the first time by NOT eating. Thanks for letting participate in this guys. it was a total learning experience. I appreciate it.

I got on here to see how the end of the competition was looking and since it appears this has turned into a forum for diet discussion, I will go ahead and put my two cents in too. The only thing I have to add to anything that's been said is that just because our body already produces something doesn't mean that it is safe to add more of it. Our bodies have the ability to maintain themselves perfectly if we honor what they are made to do. Anytime we kid ourselves into thinking we can alter the makeup of our body to get results we should be working for, we are doing just that - kidding ourselves.
People also lose weight smoking - - losing weight is not the point. Being healthy is. We can all get as passive-aggressive as we want while putting our opinions out there but the truth of the matter is we are not healthy if we are not eating right (and appropriate amounts) and exercising. Not an opinion...just fact.
I never felt like this was a place that anyone came to get solace for having a bad week. I think that it started out as a great idea. I guess the dynamics of different groups change how the competition goes and now I am ready to go it on my own as well.
That's it from me. I wish everyone luck in their journey to health.

I'm withCarrie on the HGC diet thing. I'm all for any diet that promotes a healthy lifestyle/eatingstyle that will help you lose the weight, but when you add injections and such that are supposed to get that weight off you, I think that is unfair. And to anyone trying that, I would really sggest doing a lot of research before you put something in your body. I mean how many of these diet pills and such have come out and been called safe and then you find out late that it isn't? Just a thought, I wouldn't want to risk my body for it. I would rather try really hard to eat right and exercise, and yes even possibly have some bad days, oh heaven forbid! Everything takes work, and sometimes you do better than other times. I think that it is important to have a group like this, that we can go to and be encouraged to have a better week then next week. It's a support system and competition right?

By the way Carrie, am I dropping money off to Ali again?

I actually love that I can come here and voice my trimphs and failures. The thing with weight loss and healthy living is there are ups and downs. It's important to find others who can relate, give advice and frankly, it's just nice to get it out there when you feel alone. Kids, life, and so many things weigh heavy on all of us and sometimes it's easier to eat a quick burger than to find a healthier alternative. My weight is up and down and I found that having a support group is what keeps me in the right mode. Even if I have fallen off the wagon. This last round I lost 6 then gained 4. Some of it was me and the rest was Auntie Flo. I really hate her! So, even though I'm not playing this round, I'll still be working hard to get those extra's off and hit my goal of 135 before too long. This week I'm already down 2 pounds. I heart my treamill!

I just read all the comments on here...the only thing I have to say about this is that everyone loses weight in their own way. Some things may work well for others and not for me. I love that I can get on here and learn about different ways to get healthy. I really want to know how this diet works for you Rachel. I know Jocey had success with it. I have heard from others (that I trust) that it has been a great diet for them too. I always know when something it not right for my body and I stay away from it. Research it and if it feels right...GO for it! (and please let me know how it works for you!)
